Why it's here

Most fragrance is designed to be noticed. One note is pushed forward so you can name it, repeat it, ask what someone is wearing. It's a marketing decision dressed as a creative one.

Hong works the other way round. She builds so that nothing stands out — she talks about it the way you'd talk about a building that still looks right forty years on, where no single feature is doing the arguing. That is much harder, and it is why her work holds up in a room rather than announcing itself in a lift.

I sell warmth for a living, so I have a professional interest in the same problem from another direction: how you put something into a room that people feel without looking for it. She is doing that with scent, better than almost anyone I know of.

How I know it No money has changed hands in either direction, and there is no arrangement of any kind. I just buy the things.
